Short walk to the bus stop, changed to international bus, crossing seamlessly into Slovenia and then Croatia (#Schengen)Sixth largest amphitheatre, Pula, CroatiaFascinating collection of Roman rings with history of ring wearingAtop the Pula fortress
In the 23mph gusts at the top of the seventeenth century fortress, designed by a Frenchman, built by the Venetians and upgraded by the Austro-Hungarians in the 19th century. Fascinating below ground sprawling tunnel network. The smaller mezzanine level below ground housed an exhibition about WW1 tragedies, built in WW1 as bomb shelters. Deeper and expansive network under the whole of the city was built between WW1 and WW2, almost as if another war requiring shelter for the city’s citizens would be needed.
