Day 10, Guest House, Stancija Kovačići, Rukavac, near Opatija

We woke to a clear blue sky and the prospect of fine weather all day for the first time on our trip. So, naturally, after a fantastic breakfast of local cheese, eggs and strong Croatian coffee, we asked for directions to walk up into the hills.

We set off behind the supermarket as instructed and headed off into the woods. After a couple of hours of gradual climbing, we were rewarded with incredible views over the Kvarner gulf.

We found a dug out trench in the wood by our track

After a long and rocky path downhill, we were grateful to chill by the pool in the afternoon.

The restaurant was hosting a wedding party but they once again served an excellent dinner, after which we were invited to try local liqueurs, teranino, based on the regional Teran wine and misteltoe schnapps.
