Day 5, Ayutthaya

Called a Grab taxi for the hour’s ride to Ayutthaya. Safely in the air conditioning but surrounded by heavy commuter time traffic we our received govt emergency alarms for the Bangkok air quality – stay indoors, close the windows…

Fortunately an hour later we reached the charming iuDia Hotel in Thailand’s ancient and ruined capital. The heat of the day had yet to intensify and we borrowed two bicycles to enjoy the enormous World Heritage ruined wats.

We thought we’d break our cycle to check in to our room and wander out for a light lunch.

After lunch we thought we’d cycle to and around the remaining ruined temples. Peaceful cycling around ancient ruins on the shaded late afternoon was one of the most enjoyable holiday days ever.

We were looking for something less hot for supper and on entering the neighbouring hotel walked through and architecturally stunning tunnel of curved red brick walls, echoing the ancient brick monuments around.
