Sequoia is all about big trees – really big trees.
Sequoias are the world’s largest trees and grow only high on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada in California. We stayed at the Wuksachi Lodge, 7200ft (2200m) above sea level and hiked down to the General Sherman tree, the biggest of them all and so the largest living thing on Earth. (Except Peter who has a dodgy ankle and Livy who’s not that keen on long walks. Fortunately, there’s also an excellent, free shuttle bus service.)
And yes, this is bear country! Sadly, we didn’t see one but we did spot deer and a marmot (like a large squirrel that apparently has a taste for the electric wiring on cars).
